When you made that decision to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and prayed the simple prayer of salvation asking Jesus to come into your life, a lot of wonderful things happened. Here are some of them:

1. Your Sins Were Forgiven.
Jesus took the penalty for our sins. That was why He suffered and died on the cross of Calvary. On the third day, God the Father raised Him from the dead. Through His precious blood, our sins are washed away when we receive Him as Saviour. So whatever wrong you've ever done, they are forgiven you because of Jesus. (see Isaiah 53:5-6, Rev.1:5, Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 8:12).

2. You Became A Child Of God.
We often think that all humans are God's children but that is not the case. The Bible teaches that while it is true that all are God's creatures, it is only those who receive Jesus Christ as Saviour that become God's children. So you have now become a child of God. See John 1:10-13, Galatians 3:26; 1Jn.3:1-2.

3. Your Name Got Written In The Book Of Life.
When someone becomes born again, that person's name gets written in the book of life. This is where Jesus writes the names of those who receive Him as Saviour and Lord. It is also called the Lamb's book of life (Rev.21:27) - Jesus is the Lamb of God. This is very important because no one whose name is not in the book of life will be allowed into heaven. See Revelation 20:15, Luke 10:20.

4. You Now Have A Heavenly Home and A Heavenly Destination.
Yes, you now have a home beyond the stars called heaven. You see, every person on earth is only here temporarily. This is not our home. Indeed, life on earth is like being in a football stadium for a match. When the game is over, everybody goes home – players and spectators alike.

But one question many people often fail to ask themselves is 'where am I going when I leave here?' There are only two destinations – heaven and hell. Everybody will end up in one of the two places. To go to heaven, a choice is involved – the choice to turn away from sin and receive Jesus Christ as one's personal Saviour and Lord – and that is what you have done. This is why you can now look forward with confidence to your heavenly home – John 14:1-3.

5. You Became A New Creation.
That is what happens when one becomes born again. Even though your physical appearance and physiology remain the same, your inner being (your spirit) receives a new life and becomes new.

The scriptures puts it this way 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come' ("Cor.5:17).

The full reality of this newness is often gradual in manifestation but it begins right from the time someone surrenders his/her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and becomes born again. So now that you have surrendered your life to Christ, you have become born again and you are a new creation – praise God!
